Llandrindod Wells Townscape Heritage Initiative.................... April 2004-June 2009

Llandrindod Wells developed very rapidly in the second half of the 19th century but even more drastically was the decline of its fortunes when the Spa town lost its fashionability. Whilst this left a legacy of social and economic problems it also left a relatively unaltered Victorian townscape. To avoid further deterioration and loss of the historic fabric Powys County Council made an application to the Heritage Lottery to establish a Townscape Heritage Initiative within the centre of Llandrindod to ensure the high quality repair and restoration of the centre’s buildings including reinstatement of lost architectural features.

In January 2004 Powys County Council (PCC) was awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant towards a Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) scheme for Llandrindod Wells Conservation area. The THI commenced in April 2004 and was completed in June 2009.
